Cleaner CSV export makes accountant handoff easier.
A CSV export is only useful if the records behind it are clear. The best handoff starts with consistent categories, dates, amounts and notes.
Important: MTD Ledger UK exports records for review and backup. It is not a replacement for accountant judgement or HMRC-compatible submission software.
What should a useful CSV include?
A useful accountant or bookkeeper handoff file should answer basic questions quickly: what happened, when it happened, whether it was income or expense, and why it was recorded.
Ledger detail
Date, type, category, amount and notes help another person review the record without asking you to reconstruct the story.
Summary views
Monthly, quarterly and category totals make it easier to spot missing entries, unusual costs or periods that need a second look.
Before you send records
- Check that income and expenses are not mixed in the wrong category.
- Add short notes to unclear entries.
- Look for missing months or unusually empty periods.
- Export a fresh CSV after your review, not before.
- Keep a copy for your own records.
How Pro export helps
MTD Ledger UK Pro is designed around accountant-ready export. It can prepare ledger entries, monthly summaries, quarterly summaries, category totals and a handoff note so your records are easier to scan outside the app.
CSV is not the whole workflow
A CSV export does not decide tax treatment, replace receipts or submit to HMRC. It is a handoff format: simple, portable and easy for spreadsheet tools to open.
